How did trade affect the development of Ancient Mesopotamia?

This is an article about the development of trade in Mesopotamia. I did a project on trade in Mesopotamia and I had presented my research on paper. Some topics which will be covered up in the following paragraphs are the benefits and disadvantages of trade, the goods that were traded and finally how can I connect trade to present day.

Something that affects each country or group after a trade is what they are getting and selling. Mesopotamia would get a lot of natural resources and sell the more valuable items to foreign cities. I think this would help Mesopotamia because they would always be short on needed resources and they would have plentiful of valuable resources, and using some of the valuable items to trade is very good. If Mesopotamia hadn’t trade it’s valuable resources, civilians would potentially not have the right amount of needs and Mesopotamia would maybe be a very horrible place.

Trade benefitted Mesopotamia by, making them get new ideas. For example, Mesopotamia would have new food, materials, languages, and many more. They would import gold from Egypt, cedar from Egypt and many more. With this, Mesopotamians thought of more innovations such as Cuneiform and new laws. Trading was huge to Mesopotamia which led to making their economy shine. Unfortunately, with the competition in the world it caused many cruel things such as conflict and war, and the fall of many civilizations.

In conclusion, trade was a huge impact in Mesopotamia. Trade is similar in present day, because we still trade in the present world. Trade was so important back in the day, that it is even more important today. We also have the same materials that we traded before. For example gold, cedar, clothing, etc. Trade is important because goods we own are not made here and more trading would be required.

Analyzing Mesopotamia Map

Analyzing Ancient Mesopotamia Map
The purpose of this project was to learn the geographical and environmental impact on the Mesopotamia civilizations.

Mesopotamia was part of the area Fertile Crescent. The Fertile Crescent went up from the Persian Gulf to the Nile River in Egypt. Fine silt or sand would be carried downstream by rivers constructed along the riverbeds creating wonderful, fertile sand. Lots of plants such as barley, fruit, and wheat grew along the river. There were a lot of birds and fish and for the edible plants being there, was helpful for the fish and birds. There were goats, sheep, and pigs that lived in the wild and the plants were helpful for them too. Later people learned how to tame animals so they could have a hefty supply of food. Mesopotamia is the ancient name for the area that’s between Tigris and Euphrates River. This area was named after Mesopotamia because of the two rivers. Near the Persian Gulf, the two rivers divide into smaller streams, creating an area called delta. Delta was very environment friendly for the people to gather their needs.
One way the environment affected Ancient Mesopotamia, is the hot and dry climate. Early farmers of Mesopotamia found that the dry and hot climate of the region to be both phenomenal and dreadful. The heat was provided nicely for the plants to survive but the rainfall did not. Fields would flood horrendously after the snow melted the mountains. After the water evaporated, the crops and the rest of the fields would bake from the sun. Ancient Mesopotamia had hot and dry summers and springs but cold and wet winters. Ancient Mesopotamia was very hot, and lots of rain would be very rare to have. So people would nave to adapt differently when it was cold and wet.
One way geographicaly affected Ancient Mesopotamia, is from the two rivers(Tigris and Euphrates River). Mesopotamia means ‘between the rivers’ of Tigris and Euphrates River. The two rivers flow through modern Iraq and Euphrates flows through most of Syria. Mesopotamia is made up of hills and very few trees. Early farmers farmed using timber metals and other beneficial resources form these hills and trees to survive. Without these resources, who knows maybe Mesopotamia would not be this big in history. Mesopotamia the name makes itself relevant to history. Without the two rivers a lot of things would be different in the world.
After learning about Ancient Mesopotamia, I got really curious about all the Seas, Rivers, and Gulfs around the land. I also wondered which ones were more useful than the others. I also found the definition of Mesopotamia pretty cool because the two rivers were the reason it is called Mesopotamia. History would totally change without this.

The Girl in the Bottle

The Girl in the Bottle

One day in the microscopic land of Anahim Lake, a girl in the name of Jessie Homeland had a large house. Her house was as large as a mansion and as giant as a beast. The house had 8 stories and 16 different rooms filled with all of Jessie’s personalities. The house was a house that was built about 100 years ago but this house was maintained so nicely that the house’s wood didn’t have a single dent that would crack the house.

Jessie’s parents had been on a business trip to Nebraska to make deals with governments for a week and Jessie had waited for her parents impatiently. Although Jessie was impatient, she had so much room that she could use on her time off. At 10:00 am Jessie Homeland didn’t think she would waste any time. Jessie went to her video game room and started to play video games. Jessie was playing so intensely that she never moved a whisker of her eye. She played for 9 hours and was getting really hyper. After playing video games, Jessie was talking to her best friend Lily. Lily sounded really scared and was telling Jessie that a man from one of the video games came to her house and shrunk her into a bottle. Jessie wasn’t worried at all about Lily talking and she went to sleep without ending her call.

In the evening Jessie Homeland heard a peculiar sound in one of her rooms. As she approached the room in a frightened way, the sound was getting louder continuously. When she entered the room a bottle was slammed and shattered on her head in a fierce way. Jessie looked very unconscious with blood drooling from her head. Right when Jessie woke up, she was inside the bottle! Jessie didn’t hesitate or worry about being shrunk into a small human and being inside a bottle. This seemed mysterious and awkward. Later on, Jessie was happy and excited to be in this bottle. A few minutes later a man approached to the bottle and hysterically laughed and said “Oh you will never learn. Life is not about hogging money.” A second later Jessie removed her smirk and furiously asked  ” What are you talking about you liar!?” After, the man smiled he instantly disappeared. Jessie started to wonder and thought she knew this person. The bottle was filled up with some sort of liquid, a disgusting substance. Now Jessie was getting scared and then tried to open the cap but it was as stationery as a statue. Next, Jessie punched the glass not caring what would happen, and the glass broke. She fell on the ground and turned back normal. Jessie’s hand wasn’t bloody or harming her.

Jessie then spotted the man that did this to him. “Hey Jessie” the man said in a caring way. “What did you do to me and my friend, you monster?” screamed Jessie. Then the man said ” Jessie I am giving you and your friend a life lesson. “What?” yelled Jessie. “Look at your health and age? You must treat yourself nicely and playing video games for 9 hours is not good.” Jessie nodded and let the man continue “You must follow your parents rules, and you broke one by not treating yourself nicely. I am giving you a chance but remember I will always be watching you.” “Ok I understand. By the way what is your name?” Jessie awkwardly asked ” My name is Sir William Oswell Homeland.” Jessie looking in shock thought this man must have been Jessie’s grandpa because her dad’s name is Oswell Homeland. With a wide smile Sir William disappeared.

The Violation of Education Rights in The Breadwinner

In the U.N. Convention the right that gets violated in the Breadwinner is the right to have an education that helps you This is a right that let’s you have an education to largest abilities no matter what your gender is. This education right is not a law in many countries which is very upsetting and detrimental. In this case in the book The Breadwinner this was a law betrayed by the country of Afghanistan to the U.N Convention.

This right is violated in the book when girls wouldn’t be allowed to go school. At the start of the book Parvana wouldn’t go to school because the Taliban had a law that girls wouldn’t be allowed to school. This is a very drastic law because only boys can go to school and girls can’t. Parvana  would be going to school along with her sisters if girls were allowed to go to school but in this case Parvana and her sisters can’t.

I feel good that I get to be in a country where women and men are treated equally and that no matter what gender you are you get to go to school. At the same time, I feel very sorry for girls that don’t get to go to school because they can’t build up their careers as easily as boys who get to go to school. I think countries have to change this law because everyone deserves to be treated equally.

Long Beach, Tofino

Long Beach, Tofino

Splash! Splash! The sound of the ocean at Long Beach shocked me. When we were on the way to Long Beach, I thought it was just a small common beach which had a view of the city of Tofino. However, when the massive beach was in front of my eyes I was so perplexed at how gigantic it was!

The waves curled around the rocks of the beach 90 degrees and finally speckled the sand. When I walked along the rims of the ocean, the water would come rapidly to your feet and feel as if they had been frozen. The water was so thick and expanded out so long, I could not even imagine how big it would be if it fit the whole country! When a person goes further towards the ocean, it seems as if they just masked under the water which is petrifying and cool at the same time. The water makes enormous waves since the hot water pressure will meet the cold water pressure generating big tides which makes Long Beach a great surfing place. I never knew surfing was so big in Tofino until I saw the sight of the beach which I still remember vividly.

When I walked along the sand I noticed something very peculiar; I noticed that there were no shells or creatures on the sand or underneath the water. I thought about it and realized maybe this is a sign of extinction which is horrendous if it’s true because all these creatures starting to get extinct will not be seen again which is really sad. There were not any shells which is stranger than the creatures not being there. Possibly, all the shells washed away from the beach because of the strong tide. The good thing is that there were at least some seaweed at the beach. Although there weren’t any creatures, people brought one of their favourite animals which are dogs. Dogs love playing in the beach which make the owners also happy.

The sand at the beach was as soft as the fur of a dog. When there was a big movement which made the sand rise to the air, it looked like microscopic pieces of cookie dough. The better part if you like sand soft is to go where the water is because the sand is even softer than regular sand with a feeling of nice cold water. When you scoop a handful of sand, it feels like pudding in your hands agitating and trying to get away loose for freedom. When it gets away from you that is when it stumbles away from your hands and gets back to its enjoyable life. The sand at Long Beach felt very nice like Long Beach had the best sand ever. The sand made me want to eat it after I thought of this, thinking it was something scrumptious. However, at the same time making these types of delectable connections to something very disgusting is a little bit odd.

The day I saw Long Beach was magical, as if a dream came true. The water, and the sand made this memory a great one. I won’t have the exact same experience at Long Beach ever again. I learned that day to never underestimate about something before you see it since you could start loving it like I did. I enjoyed that day at Long Beach which will never be forgotten.

Reflection on Socials Timeline

There are numerous events in the past that affected me. For example my parents getting married, the earthquake in Nepal and the internet being created and becoming more popular. I will tell you how all these are related to me.

The first thing which moulded my past was my parents getting married. If my parents hadn’t had married then I wouldn’t have existed. I would be a totally different person with some different interests. When I think of that I feel as if what type of life would I be living in which is not this one. If my parents had married before or after they were married, I would have totally different friends which would be cool but overall not that enjoyable. I would also be either more years ahead of my life right now or younger than 12. I also wouldn’t have most of the memories that I have. I probably wouldn’t have traveled all these places I have gone to if I didn’t exist. Maybe I wouldn’t be living in Vancouver or in Canada.

Another event that formed me was the Nepal earthquake. Since being from Nepal this was very crucial for me. When I heard about this tragic occasion I was so shocked and worried about all my relatives living in Nepal. This earthquake had killed about 9,000 people and injured nearly 22,000 people. A lot of people are still in recovery from this earthquake. Most people’s homes had been demolished which are leaving them stranded on the streets. Schools were critically damaged which left school to be located outside. If there was a huge rainstorm or huge precipitation, there wouldn’t be any shelter which could lead to very treacherous diseases. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world so the recovery definitely wasn’t going to be done promptly without hesitation. So several countries were aware of this and donated money to Nepal and schools and people all across the world were raising money and then donating it to Nepal.

The final thing that shaped me was the Internet being created. The internet was created in 1997. This is important to me in a lot of ways. For example if I wanted to find a fact on something I could just go on an electrical device and search it. If it was in the early and mid of the 20th century, you wouldn’t have find that information that quickly or you probably might’ve not find that information. I am proud that I was born after this happened because I can gather a lot of data from the Internet.

In conclusion, the past has formed me in a lot of ways. I couldn’t live with the knowledge I have if my parents hadn’t met, I would not be able to learn about my family’s history and not know my relatives or friends has much as I do. Also, I would not know how lucky I am to be a Canadian without the past. Finally, I would not be where I am right now without the past.
